What I Do Industrial design as art If one were to reference my trade in the marketplace, I would be called an industrial designer. The skill set that is involved in producing my work categorizes me as such. But, what makes me different is the fact that the few works I produce each year are sold in the marketplace as art. Producing such works, like the “Sisters" and the ”Ambassadors," requires the use of old world and new world technologies, my network of six specialists, and time. The processes involved in the creation of my works are a delicate balance of hand and machine. It’s not uncommon for the materials to be fitted into place within plus/minus measurements of the width of a human hair. Some of the finishing treatments involved in my work are common in satellites orbiting earth. When necessary, I use magnets to fit my work together, which allows me to transcend the "standard" and "metric" issues I had at one time selling my work in France and the United States. My work is a measurement of my growth. I am in the constant pursuit of logic in the fitting of my work, understanding the properties of the materials that I use, and I am always and forever approaching the creation of irreducible form. "When I am working on a problem, I never think about beauty but when I have finished, if the solution is not beautiful, I know it is wrong."
R. Buckminster Fuller
