A letter, wrote in response to what will be shown in my MODA exhibit.

I have been creating many of my works with a simple justification… because I felt the need to do it. I have found that people have the need to classify or organize my work into a category for the sake of understanding it. It seems to be either “Art” or “Design”. At times I have seen this conversation get heated. I have educated myself on the differences between Art & Design. Now, placing my work in a category has still been a challenge and in some circles controversial. I believe critics have associated the means in which I create my work with manufacturing. It’s with this perspective it could be seen as Design. I believe I am representing the next generation of Artist that are embracing today’s advancements in technology to produce what Artists have been producing for thousands of years… their vision.

Last year, I had a conversation on the topic of categorizing my work with a man that many consider the worlds most successful Designer. What we spoke about had impacted my perspective. The truth of the matter is it doesn’t matter whether its art or design because I am going to keep making it anyway. But, I felt a STRONG desire to create a piece that would represent both! If Art & Design were the opposite ends of a Seesaw this new work would be the fulcrum in the middle… the fulcrum that would balance them perfectly. Imagine a piece that defies classification!

Several months ago I envisioned my category defying work and I will debut it in my MODA exhibit this October. As you read this email I am putting the piece together. I believe it will be my masterpiece… a culmination of passion and frustration.

With this new piece I bring clarity, but I also welcome confusion.

Thank you for your interest. I hope this message finds you well.

    Respectfully,

    Kristofer

    on public works...

I believe that the ideal outdoor sculpture contrasts its surroundings by placing emphasis on its natural environment and is not self indulgent.

    Serving-Form

While designing my table set I asked myself ''what is my furniture doing and not doing for me?"  I realized then that all furniture essentially boils down to being a "serving form".

Before bring something new into your environment ask yourself. "will this form serve? Or, will I have to serve this form?"

The act of placing furniture in your environment is the beginning of a relationship.

    Good luck.
